Several news media are reporting that police forces in the Twin Cities arrested more than 800 people during events surrounding the Republican National Convention this week.
That number included at least two videographers arrested Sunday and four journalists arrested on Monday, including Democracy Now's Amy Goodman and two of her producers. Those are in addition to the 19 journalists detained and issued citations at Thursday night demonstrations and five I-Witness videographers raided and detained last weekend.
The 800+ arrests this week handily beats the 589 protesters arrested in Chicago during the 1968 Democratic National Convention. But still nowhere near the record set in New York at the 2004 RNC, where 1,806 people were arrested. (Of course, charges were dropped against 90% of those people.)
