If insanity is...

doing the same thing over and over yet expecting different results, then the convention protesters are insane. How many times do we have to go through this?

Al Jazeera in the house

Published on September 4, 2008 - 7:08pm by Nicole Sawaya

Taking a scan of the big sky boxes here in this corporate arena, I was struck by the fact that Al Jazeera is occupying a box next to all the big traditional media outfits like CNN, Fox, PBS, etc. Jazeera was also at the DNC. Should I ever again find myself in the position of having some influence on the coverage of a national event such as a political convention, or a national election, I will make a point of contacting Al Jazeera and bringing on some of their journalists.

John Nichols on Sarah Palin and Media Coverage

Published on September 4, 2008 - 1:18pm by Nathan Moore

With Vice Presidential nominee Alaska Governor Sarah Palin addressing an enthusiastic crowd of delegates last night, Uprising Radio with Sonali Kolhatkar takes a look at the convention so far, with an analysis of speeches, and corporate media coverage. Joining Sonali to analyze the media coverage is John Nichols, political writer for the Nation, co-founder of Free Press. "I like the aggressiveness, I like the digging in," said Nichols.  "But I don't like that I knew more about her child-rearing than her ideology in the first 48 hours."

Red blogs blue?

Published on September 1, 2008 - 8:54pm by Nicole Sawaya

Wandering up to the top tier nose bleed area of the arena, I was snooping around when I heard some commotion. Stumbled upon two very unhappy bloggers giving the RNC folks a heated piece of their minds. Apparently, there was to be a "bloggers' row" here, but given what I was told, the RNC isn't quite up to speed about bloggers.

Amy Goodman Detained

Published on September 1, 2008 - 3:15pm by Nicole Sawaya

Getting word as it plays -- Amy Goodman and two other crew from DemocracyNow! are being detained by police for "probable cause for riot (?)." Happening now -- just got word. Phoned in to other DN! crew to see what we can do. Waiting to hear if it's an arrest or "detained." Should have a report on the live broadcast later today. Police scene here over the top. We chased the raids all day Saturday and I'll blog about some of that later. Meanwhile, in phone contact with DN! and if any help is needed behind the scenes, we're there.

Under the Blog Tent

Published on August 27, 2008 - 12:34pm by Nicole Sawaya

Found the Big Tent. Interestingly, it's outside the perimeter lock-down of the Centre du Pepsi. And while there was some air conditioning, the coolest thing were the folks inside. Five hundred bloggers were selected to be under the Tent, out of over 3,000 who applied. Some of the selection process qualifications included being a blogger for at least a year and half, a certain amount of posts per week, and being able to pay a hundred bucks.

Uprising Radio: The Republican Echo Chamber and Its Effects on Obama

Published on August 25, 2008 - 12:47pm by Nathan Moore
In spite of the recent spate of anti-Obama books, veteran journalist Bill Berkowitz doesn't think they'll have the same negative impact as "Unfit for Command" and Swift Boat had on John Kerry's campaign in 2004. He spoke spoke about this and other aspects of the Republican echo chamber on KPFK's "Uprising" with Sonali Kolhatkar earlier today [mp3 - length: 15:12].
